LE SILENCE DES CLARISSES
Series of solar prints on cardboard, 2022.
24 cardboard panels measuring 50 x 112 cm each. Together, they could recompose the shape of an “O” shaped cloister.
To temporarily soften the light entering the deconsecrated Clarisses Monastery cloister in Roubaix, I placed a series of cardboard panels over the windows. A month later, when they were removed, ghostly imprints appeared, revealing with striking precision the almost intact silhouette of the openings of this heritage building. One can make out traces of the leaded stained-glass windows, handles, various repairs, and more. These spectral impressions make it possible to reconstruct and displace this protected cloister, allowing it to be inhabited through light.
