Found cotton cloth, rust-stained, 14 × 19 cm, 2023


While walking through an abandoned communion wafer factory located next to my studio*, I found an old cotton cloth. Drawn to the rust stains marking it, I began unfolding it. Inside, I discovered a small, perfectly defined rose, waiting to be revealed.

The term acheropita comes from the Greek ἀχειροποίητα (acheiropoieta), meaning “not made by human hands.” It is traditionally used to describe images believed to have appeared miraculously, without human intervention, particularly in Christian iconography (such as the Veil of Veronica or the Shroud of Turin).
