Lux Æterna

Series of solar prints on cardboard, 2022.
24 cardboard panels measuring 50 x 112 cm each. Together, they could recompose the shape of an “O” shaped cloister.

To temporarily soften the light entering the cloister of the deconsecrated Clarisses monastery in Roubaix, a series of cardboard panels was placed over the windows.
A month later, upon removing them, ghostly imprints appeared, uncannily precise silhouettes of the nearly intact openings of this heritage building. Since then, I have carefully preserved these photosensitive impressions, shielding them from sunlight, aware that exposure would inevitably lead to their disappearance.

In the face of these luminous apparitions, which verge on the magical, I wonder: is it possible to strip light of its divine character?
